Text message marketing is the new way of collecting email addresses
Sounds paradoxical, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not so much. There’s a group of people that believe that SMS or text messaging will be the way that people want to communicate and receive marketing messages from you. Then there’s a group of people that believe that using text messaging to market your messages is the most annoying thing a brand can ever do. I am in the latter group.
Let’s face it, we all have a love-hate relationship with marketing messages. They’re annoying, but we want to receive them still, especially when there’s a deal involved. However receiving marketing messages through your most personal communication tool, text messaging, I’m still not a believer.
However, I do believe that text message marketing can be a very useful tool when it comes to facilitating the collection of email addresses. There are a few companies that have been developed to help you start off the conversation (for 1 to 2 messages max) in your prospects text message, but then move that conversation over to your prospects email inbox, where territory is more fair game.
Below is a list of a few of those companies.
Leaddigits is a product subset within Leadpages, the landing page creation tool. Depending on the package that you purchase, you will be given free access to creating Leaddigits. Read this blog post on how to get leads via text message to see just how easy it is to set up and use.
Textiful is another tool for text message marketing. Textiful automatically integrates with MailChimp, ConvertKit, Emma, AWeber, Drip and more. You don’t have to signup for anything else to use Textiful.
3. Join by Text
Join by Text does specifically that, it allows you to have people join your email list by sending a quick text message. Similar to Textiful, this is a standalone text-to-email marketing tool where you don’t have to signup for anything else.
4. EZ Texting
EZ Texting focuses a bit more on the text messaging marketing within workflows, including emails. It can be ideal especially for brick and mortar and business that get local foot traffic. For instance, you may want to collect information such as zip code and do a search for best insurance rates, and collecting email address after.
CallLoop, as the name says, focuses on voice broadcasting and text messaging, but then extends itself to marketing and email automation, allowing you to close the loop with your customers no matter what device they are on. CallLoop has a ton of integrations with your email marketing tools, landing page providers, and more.
Evaluate each platform to see which one is best for your business. Regardless of which you chose, you will be serving your customers better when you can communicate with them on the devices which they use and prefer. Remember, however, that your communication doesn’t have to remain on one device or tool. By starting the conversation off with text, and then moving into email inboxes, you have the opportunity to build longevity and engagement with your product or service.
